How is poverty like all the different ropes tying Gulliver
down to the beach?
A rope is like someone in poverty, if there are only a few ropes on Gulliver it’s easy for him to break free but if there are too many ropes above Gulliver to hold him down, that he can’t just rise up and break free of it like how we can’t break free of the cycle of poverty with so many people in it.

What was the goal for your group and did you achieve it?
Our goal was just to be able to keep paying for rent and food throughout the 3 weeks, we were not able to achieve it however we were very close, I think the problem was the co-operation in the group and getting everyone to work.
Why was it important to reach your goal?
Because it was very basic and simple so if we were not able to achieve it, that really shows how hard it is to live in the conditions that some people are in right now and still be able to do it every day for a living.

How did you feel when prices rose?
I felt that it was really unfair and things got a lot harder because being able to just get enough money when the prices were still low made it impossible for us to afford the things when it got more expensive.

How hard did you have to work in order to survive?
I felt that I had to work extremely hard in order to survive, there wasn’t only just the problem of making the paper bags but also the problem with the group not working together.

What solutions did your group come up with in order to break
the cycle of poverty?
-That not only do charity and small groups of people need to help but bigger organizations like the government and everyone needs to help to give to people in poverty to really make a difference.
-There also needs to be laws and justice in the places that these people in poverty live in to make it fair to them.

How did it feel to be poor?
What did you care about when you lived in the slums? What
didn’t you care about?
What I really cared about is making money and wasting the newspaper. I also cared about being able to pay the rent and the food and water. What I didn’t care about was the environment around us even though it was getting extremely dirty.
